The Argyll Light Infantry was an infantry regiment of the Non-Permanent Active Militia of the Canadian Militia (now the Canadian Army). In 1936, the regiment was converted from infantry to form one of the Canadian Army's first tank units, and then in 1946 was converted to anti-tank artillery. In 1954, the regiment was converted back to infantry and amalgamated along with The Midland Regiment into The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment.The Argyllrn& Sutherland Highlanders of Canada was first organized in August ofrn1940. The related Argyll Light Infantry (Tank), an older active group, originally from Belleville Ontario, did not see overseas duty butrnprovided replacements for other armored units overseas. Its active servicernunits also served on protective duties on the home front . In 1936 it receivedrnthe designation "Tank" , but still wore this "lightrnInfantry" badge until 1941 when the "Tank" designation wasrnofficially authorized. A hard to find piece of Canada's war history.
